Tag definitions 0.1

Status: complete working draft for prototyping and collaborator review. Version 1 is reserved for the first reviewed public release.

This document defines the human meaning of schemas/tag/0.1.schema.json. A tag is a reusable controlled-vocabulary record. A tag membership classifies an exact decoder version or circuit revision; it does not itself establish scientific comparability.

Namespace

The namespace states which independent discovery axis the tag belongs to.

• algorithm describes an ingredient or family of decoding algorithms and may

be attached to decoder versions.

• experiment describes the purpose or protocol of a circuit, such as memory,

stability, cultivation, or logical operation, and may be attached to circuit revisions.

• code describes the code construction represented by a circuit revision.

A tag is valid only in its declared namespace. Namespace is part of the tag's meaning rather than a visual grouping.

Scientific meaning

description is the normative short meaning of the tag. label is its display name and slug is the stable URL/export identifier. Once the tag has been used by published scientific content, its namespace, slug, and scientific meaning are immutable. A genuinely different meaning requires a new tag record.

Tag memberships are non-exclusive: a decoder or circuit may legitimately have several tags on the same axis. Tags support discovery and filtering. They do not choose an evaluator, define a score, or determine whether two results can be placed on one leaderboard.

Curation status

custom means a community-created term which has not been adopted into the admin-curated vocabulary. official means the admins have reviewed and adopted the term. deprecated means the term should not be selected for new records. Promotion from custom to official does not change the tag identity or its scientific meaning.

canonical_tag_id identifies the same-namespace replacement after a merge or deprecation. Historical memberships continue to name their original tag; user interfaces may additionally resolve and display the canonical replacement.

Governance and infrastructure

status, canonical_tag_id, curator fields, and curation timestamps are governance metadata. display_color is admin-selected presentation metadata for official tags and has no scientific meaning. Custom and deprecated tags render neutrally even if historical colour metadata remains.

id, schema, slug, account references, and timestamps are identity and infrastructure fields. Non-semantic spelling or wording corrections and curation actions are audited, but do not create new decoder or circuit revisions.
